Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring an active IA or compact license and 2 years of acute care stepdown experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a 22-bed stepdown / PCU unit within an acute care hospital settingPatient population includes heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and strokeNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerinRNs must manage and troubleshoot CPAP equipment and interpret their own telemetry stripsEpic is used for charting and EMR documentation12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), with every other weekend requiredCyclic scheduling providedFloat to ICU required if appropriate experience is presentOne 12-hour department-specific orientation shift is providedAssignment requires 1 major and 1 minor holiday coveragePass / Fail skills exam required on the first day of orientation, with a minimum score of 90% requiredRNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own patient telemetry stripsThe charge nurse takes a full patient assignment and is present on each shiftPatient care tech support with a 1 : 10 ratio is providedFast-paced environment with frequent admissions and dischargesRTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front; additional RTO is not approved after submissionReferences are required from a supervisor within the past 12 months and a peer or supervisor from the last 3 yearsFirst time travelers are welcome to applyRequirements
Active IA or compact RN license required at time of considerationMinimum of 2 years of recent acute care stepdown / PCU experienceCurrent certifications : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSSExperience titrating cardiac drips and managing telemetry requiredExperience with Epic EMR preferredDriver's license required to confirm residence outside 50-mile radius of the facilityArtificial nails are prohibited in patient care areasCandidates must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility as full time, part time, or PRN staff within the past yearBenefits
