Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring an active IA or compact license and 2 years of acute care stepdown experience.

Responsibilities

Work in a 22-bed stepdown / PCU unit within an acute care hospital setting

Patient population includes heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke

Nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4

Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin

RNs must manage and troubleshoot CPAP equipment and interpret their own telemetry strips

Epic is used for charting and EMR documentation

12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), with every other weekend required

Cyclic scheduling provided

Float to ICU required if appropriate experience is present

One 12-hour department-specific orientation shift is provided

Assignment requires 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage

Pass / Fail skills exam required on the first day of orientation, with a minimum score of 90% required

RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own patient telemetry strips

The charge nurse takes a full patient assignment and is present on each shift

Patient care tech support with a 1 : 10 ratio is provided

Fast-paced environment with frequent admissions and discharges

RTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front; additional RTO is not approved after submission

References are required from a supervisor within the past 12 months and a peer or supervisor from the last 3 years

First time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

Active IA or compact RN license required at time of consideration

Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care stepdown / PCU experience

Current certifications : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Experience titrating cardiac drips and managing telemetry required

Experience with Epic EMR preferred

Driver's license required to confirm residence outside 50-mile radius of the facility

Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas

Candidates must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility as full time, part time, or PRN staff within the past year
