Description :
The Sterile Processing Technician 2 performs a variety of duties associated with cleaning, sterilization, processing, organizing, and distributing patient equipment, instruments, supplies, and products used in patient care.
The role may serve as a resource to Sterile Processing Technician 1 staff.
Essential functions include preparing rooms and organizing instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies for specific departments.
The technician cleans and decontaminates instruments, containers, and patient equipment using detergents and disinfectant solutions in accordance with regulatory standards and internal policies and procedures.
The position operates semi-automatic and automatic sterilization equipment and washers.
The technician inventories, orders, replenishes, and distributes instruments, reusable medical equipment, and medical supplies for general supplies and surgical carts.
Maintaining and controlling inventory is a key function of the role.
The technician ensures compliance with safety, environmental, manufacturer, and infection control practices.
Collaboration in providing in-service training is expected.
The technician serves as a resource and assists in training and mentoring level 1 Sterile Processing staff.
Key success factors include knowledge of equipment and instrument sterilization methods and procedures required.
Understanding basic medical terminology is essential.
Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and staff are required.
The technician must comply with safety, environmental, manufacturer, and infection control practices.
Commitment to effective customer service delivery, integrity, and the ability to work productively as a member of a team are essential requirements of this role.
