Construction Inspector I - C

Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities, and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application. Minimum Qualifications : Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. All positions require a valid Florida Driver's License and must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

This is a full-time CONTRACT position with the same benefits as Regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows :

• Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
• Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
• Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
