Specialties Engineering Manager
Responsible for the management of Specialties Engineering, including Reliability, Supportability, and Hardware Configuration Management, with overall technical, budget, and schedule responsibility for the department which includes the following functions : ILS, Design Drafting, Technical Writing, and Hardware Configuration Management.
Through carefully orchestrated planning, organizing, directing and controlling, the person in this position assumes total accountability for the execution, quality and direction of the scope associated with functional departments. A high degree of system engineering knowledge, management acumen, organization ability, communication skills, delegation discernment and general business aptitude are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include :
- Recommending operational plans and tactics that will directly impact the achievement of overall functional results.
- Directing the execution of tactics established by functional leadership.
- Establishing operational plans for the job area with short- to mid-term impact on results.
- Managing, planning, monitoring, and controlling all department activities and resources to ensure timely delivery of work products.
- Owning the Engineering design process, metrics, and continuous improvement.
- Leading and coordinating activities between CAE entities.
- Supporting projects as they progress from integration through final acceptance.
- Initiating design of modifications to product lines as necessary.
- Reviewing and controlling budgets and man hour estimates.
- Defining resources and training needed by the department.
- Providing accurate estimates of work content and architecting solutions.
- Drafting Statements of Work and participating in proposal reviews.
- Regularly reviewing and status of all programs in work within CAE USA.
- Assisting with development of CAE USA strategic and operational plans.
- Displaying tact and self-discipline necessary to interface effectively with customers, vendors, and all levels of employees.
- Establishing overall design approaches, priorities, and generating and approving department standards.
- Negotiating and receiving new work for the department.
- Monitoring the status of the work at the department level.
- Evaluating performance of all department members.
- Providing leadership, coaching / mentoring, and guidance to Group Leaders.
- Developing the talent pipeline, driving corporate culture, and leading all employee management activities.
- Maintaining effective two-way communications within the company.
Qualifications and Education Requirements include :
Bachelor's Degree or greater in Electrical, Mechanical or Systems Engineering.15+ years' experience in the aerospace, simulation or aviation industry with a background in simulation hardware design & manufacturing with a considerable background in functional and technical management directly with these areas is desired.Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.Preferred Skills include :
Proven leadership capabilities for technical management in US DOD aviation simulation along with detailed knowledge of modern system and hardware development methodologies and deployment of simulation products.Knowledge of MRP systems, MIL Standards, ANSI, ISO 9001, AS9100, NFPA, Quality Workmanship Standards, OSHA and best commercial practices.Stays abreast of advances in engineering / manufacturing technology related to the flight simulation industry through personal initiative and continuing education efforts.Related skill areas should include : technical writing and presentation, technical effort and cost estimating, budgeting / scheduling, and task performance management.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal and written communication.Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.Analytical math skills necessary to complete the required tasks.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.Experience in Contractor Logistics Support and sustainment contracts is desired.Security Responsibilities include :
