Beyond day-to-day use in the field, XOi also functions as a central system of record for service organizations, helping them make decisions in real-time while maintaining a clear view of their entire asset portfolio. By simplifying communication, supporting skills development, and turning operational data into practical insights, we are making it easier for our customers to access the right information they need to improve revenue, reduce costs, and keep equipment running longer.

XOi is expanding our Data Platform team and looking for a Database Administrator (DBA). In this role, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and architectural oversight of XOi's database systems including PostgreSQL databases, a Snowflake data warehouse, and associated data platforms. This role involves proactive database management, enforcing data architecture standards, and serving as the technical authority for all database-related decisions. The DBA will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Data Science.

Core Responsibilities :

Database Operations & Performance

Proactive Monitoring : Implement comprehensive monitoring for PostgreSQL and Snowflake environments, identifying performance issues before they impact users

Performance Optimization : Conduct regular query performance analysis, index optimization, and database tuning to maintain sub-second response times

Capacity Planning : Monitor database growth patterns and plan for scaling needs across development, staging, and production environments

Incident Response : Serve as primary on-call resource for database emergencies, with authority to make immediate decisions to restore service

Architecture & Standards Enforcement

Schema Design Authority : Review and approve all database schema changes through PR process, requiring refactoring when necessary to meet standards

Data Modeling Standards : Enforce consistent naming conventions, indexing strategies, and relational design patterns across all database objects

Migration Management : Oversee Flyway deployment processes and evaluate tools like Atlas for future migration improvements

Technical Debt Prevention : Identify and prevent anti-patterns that lead to performance degradation or maintenance issues

Development Process Integration

Required PR Reviews : All database-related pull requests must receive DBA approval before merging to production

Code Quality Gates : Implement automated tools (SQLFluff, etc.) and manual reviews to maintain SQL code quality

Deployment Oversight : Ensure proper deployment practices and prevent issues like mixing versioned / repeatable migrations

Cross-Team Collaboration

Engineering Partnership : Work diplomatically with development teams, building trust through demonstrated value

Best Practices Training : Provide guidance and training to developers on database best practices, query optimization, and data modeling

Documentation : Maintain comprehensive documentation of database standards, procedures, and architectural decisions

Stakeholder Communication : Translate technical database concepts for Product and Executive stakeholders

XOi-Specific Requirements

Real-time Data Processing : Optimize database performance for XOi's 5,000+ TPS event-driven architecture

Reporting Integration : Ensure smooth data flow between operational databases and Snowflake analytics platform

Multi-environment Management : Manage database consistency across development, integration, QA, and production environments

Qualifications :

3+ years PostgreSQL DBA experience with demonstrated expertise in :

Advanced query optimization and execution plan analysis

Index strategy and maintenance (B-tree, partial, expression, etc.)

Connection pooling, replication, and high availability setup

Database security and access control management

Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem including Lambdas, Kinesis Streams, SNS, & SQS

SQL Expertise : Advanced SQL skills with ability to optimize complex queries and create efficient data models

Version Control & CI / CD : Experience with Git, database migration tools (Flyway in use presently)

Monitoring Tools : Experience with database monitoring platforms and alerting systems

Process and Collaboration Skills :

Authority in Technical Environments : Proven ability to enforce technical standards in collaborative environments

Diplomatic Leadership : Skill in building consensus while maintaining technical authority

Cross-functional Communication : Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence architectural decisions

Problem-Solving Under Pressure : Experience managing database crises while maintaining professional relationships

Event-Driven Systems : Experience with databases supporting high-throughput event processing

SaaS Multi-Tenancy : Knowledge of database design patterns for multi-tenant SaaS applications

Snowflake experience including : Warehouse sizing and cost optimization; Data pipeline integration and monitoring; Performance tuning for analytical workloads
