Job Title : Maintenance Controls Technician

Job Description :
- The Maintenance Controls Technician provides advanced electrical and automation support to ensure reliable and continuous plant operations.
- This role supports process improvements, equipment upgrades, and capital projects by modifying PLC / HMI hardware and software.
- The position also acts as a technical resource and trainer for first-level maintenance personnel. This role reports directly to the Director of Maintenance & Facilities.
Key Responsibilities :
Controls & Automation
Program and modify PLC and HMI systems for process improvements and capital projects.Troubleshoot and support PLC ladder logic, SCADA / HMI configurations, and related control systems.Configure and support control network protocols including Profibus, DeviceNet, DH+, Ethernet / IP, and ControlNet.Ensure programming updates reflect equipment changes, corrective actions, and upgrades.Apply IT networking concepts related to controls and automation systems.Maintenance & Troubleshooting :
Serve as secondary electrical support and act as a first-level technician when needed.Troubleshoot and repair controls, automation systems, and electrical equipment.Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce downtime.Support production changeovers, rebuild parts, and install new equipment.Maintain NEC compliance in all electrical work performed.Process Improvement & Project Work :
Lead problem-solving initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime across all shifts.Participate in and support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and process design improvements.Modify PM job plans based on system data and OEE feedback.Document improvements, update prints, and create troubleshooting guides.Training & Collaboration :
Serve as a "Learning Leader" for new automation and electrical systems.Train electricians, operators, and maintenance personnel on troubleshooting and maintenance best practices.Align with internal teams to resolve issues, improve workflows, and enhance equipment performance.Compliance, Safety & Documentation :
Follow GMP, EHS, LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.Report safety hazards and corrective actions to leadership.Maintain accurate CMMS records including work orders, parts usage, and equipment history.Required Skills & Experience
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical systems, PLC logic, SCADA / HMI, and control networks.Strong understanding of process controls and automation in food, beverage, aseptic, or pharmaceutical environments.Programming experience with Rockwell Automation software including :RSLogix 5RSLogix 500PanelBuilderExperience configuring SCADA / HMI platforms such as :Intellution iFIXWonderwareRSViewAbility to read electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and instrumentation diagrams.Strong math, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).Ability to work independently with strong ownership mindset.Additional RequirementsAbility to operate forklift equipment (Certification required).Respirator fit certification (or ability to obtain).Ability to use basic computer tools (email, Microsoft Office, CMMS).Preferred Attributes
Experience with predictive maintenance technologies.Knowledge of packaging automation systems.Ability to train others and support continuous improvement culture.
