About Miami Correctional Facility : As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum-security correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill. Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and / or federal detainees.

Role Overview

As a Correctional Intelligence Officer, you will work with a small team of Investigators and Intelligence Analysts in an Indiana Department of Correction facility. A Correctional Intelligence Officer helps contribute to the safety and security of the facility by investigating incidents related to the correctional facility, including but not limited to misconduct by incarcerated individuals or staff, illegal activity by visitors and volunteers, and policy violations, to name a few. A typical day for a Correctional Investigator includes reviewing digital video footage, monitoring phone calls, and investigating incidents. Correctional Investigators typically work 8-hour days Monday through Friday and respond to the facility after hours for significant incidents.

Salary Statement : The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Eligible non-custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

• Investigate and gather physical evidence and testimony from defendants, complainants, witnesses, informants, and other staff members or offenders.
• Conduct criminal investigations and provide reports, information, and criminal intelligence to outside agencies when appropriate.
• Gather evidence, recover, and accurately label items considered evidence for future use in internal / external cases.
• Conduct inspections of facility to determine whether security concerns exist and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and ACA standards.
• Participate in trials, provide testimony as expert witness, and testify in court hearings.
• Observe offender activities and line movements to report issues.
• Train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing corrective actions and opportunities to continue professional development.
• Establish and maintain good relationships with local law enforcement officials and prosecutors.
