• RN's - Pass / Fail exam on Friday during orientation. OPEN BOOK exam on skills learned - they are given all necessary resources to pass. Must receive a 90% to pass or they will be terminated
• of Beds : 55- Ratios : 1 : 5-6- Common diagnosis / Types of patients : MedSurg / Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive- Are RN's required to titrate drips? : Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine- Common titratable & / or set rate drips : PCA pumps- Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? : Yes- Are there nurse aids / patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? : Yes- 1 : 10-20- Are there Tele / Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? : Tele techs will interpret, RNs should have some tele awareness- Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) : 0630-1900, 1830-0700 / / Travelers will be scheduled. Will approve a limited amount of block scheduling- Weekend Requirements : Every other weekend- Holiday Requirements : 2-3 Holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years. - Floating Requirements : Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed- Scrub Color / Dress Code / Scrubs Provided? : RNs : Navy Blue- How many shifts of unit / department specific orientation? : 2 days- Additional Notes : Have mechanical lifts in every other room, Big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness, This unit typically has multiple discharged and admissions in one day- a nurse is successful on this unit when they can manage the business of the day, have good attendance, are a team player, friendly, compassionate, and cares about patients first.
