Systems/Network Analyst 3

Position Summary

The Systems/ Network Analyst 3, is an integral part of the IT Networks Group and will support traditional Access, Distribution, and Core layers of networking. This position will be working on the Wireless Network team and will be responsible for installing, and maintaining wireless equipment, and addressing wireless issues in a multi-vendor network environment. This position will be responsible for serving as the escalation resource for the junior staff for ticket resolution. Systems Network Analyst 3s are responsible for high level project planning and implementation, wireless designs, and cost estimation. You’ll also need the ability to leverage your networking knowledge to triage, troubleshoot, and stay with a ticket until resolution.

Systems/ Networks Analyst 3 are frequently assigned design projects that range from minor enhancements to wireless network installation for new buildings, to new construction and remodels, to configuring and deploying new wireless controllers to enhance our wireless deployment. A strong knowledge of Layers 1 through 3 of networking concepts is required for this position. Work will be performed in a team-based environment in collaboration with functional and technical staff, management and other stakeholders. Work experience in a Higher Education environment is a plus. Duties and Responsibilities

• Uses independent judgement to consult with users, other university departments, external organizations and/or agencies to collect information/gather requirements for existing or proposed network, security and computing devices, server systems, multiuser applications, and/or databases including capacity planning, security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery, and upgrade planning. Recommends designs, provides cost analyses, plans projects and coordinates tasks for the installation/maintenance of networks or systems for short-, medium-, and long-range strategic projects.
• Develops and provides individual and/or group instruction and/or training on operating systems, relational databases, security and privacy and other applications; assists users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems.
• Interprets the unit's strategic goals and recommends solutions for multiple large-scale network, hardware, software or system security projects and in support of those goals.
• Plans and implements authorized procedures and alternative guidelines for system administration and triage; escalates technical issues as appropriate.
• Oversees, maintains and inputs applicable records such as, but not limited to, hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security. Researches and recommends hardware and software development, purchase, implementation and use.
• Prepares or may lead others in the preparation of detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining systems, applications, or network capabilities and processes; documents projects and may write user instructions.
• Participates, or may serve as lead, in the investigation, planning, implementation, testing and debugging of network or systems hardware components and applications.
• Plans and implements advanced defense-in-depth system security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, and file system integrity, managing and implementing roles, and adding and deleting users according to business rules.
• Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues of advanced complexity and provides on-call support for network, hardware, software and/or system security services including user access and computer configuration.
• Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
• Evaluates and tests new or modified software programs and software development procedures used to verify that programs function according to user requirements and conform to established guidelines and best practices.
• May supervise or provide functional direction to assigned staff and/or student employees.
• May be responsible for administration and oversight of medium to large scale technology projects.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

• Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with member of diverse communities.
  
• Strong analytical and planning skills.
  
• ITIL experience and certification
  
• Cisco Network Certified (CCNA or Higher)
  
• Aruba/HP certification/experience (wireless certification is preferred)
  
• Next Gen Firewall certification/experience
  
• Basic routing, firewall, and/or intrusion prevention knowledge is a plus.
  
• Experience with network monitoring applications or Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a plus
