Manhattan Youth is seeking an experienced supervisor for large groups in an Elementary After-School Program. The Activity Area Supervisor will implement our Active Supervision Guidelines to ensure student safety and well-being in large group activity spaces (i.e. the cafeteria, gym, and yard). They report directly to the On-Site Program Director and Assistant Director, ensuring that staff are properly supervising all students at all times in these spaces. This includes monitoring and directing staff members to remain in their “supervision zones” and “actively supervise” all students in accordance with our Active Supervision Guidelines to ensure safety and well-being.
This is an on-site, part-time hourly position at a NYC public school located in Manhattan, where Manhattan Youth operates the after-school program Monday through Friday 2pm – 6pm.
Pay : $25 / hour
Primary Responsibilities
- Implementing Our Active Supervision Guidelines in Large Group Activity Areas
- Maintaining a presence in large group activity areas to oversee the implementation of our Active Supervision Guidelines with staff and students (i.e. in the cafeteria, gym, and yard)
- Direct, instruct, and ensure Team Leaders and Group Leaders remain in their “supervision zones” and are “actively supervising” students at all times
- Inform on-site Program Director and Assistant Director about safety and supervision issues regarding staff and students
- May perform other job duties as needed
- Able to walk up and down stairs multiple times daily
Qualifications
2+ years’ experience supervising staff responsible for the supervision of students and / or campers in after-school programs, summer camps, or schoolsCollege degree in education or child-care related field highly preferredKnowledge of “active supervision” and “supervision zones” in large group activity spacesAble to positively direct and communicate with staff Team and Group LeadersSkilled at anticipating student behaviors and directing staff to proactively intervene to prevent unsafe behaviors BEFORE they happen (skilled at recognizing student telegraphing behaviors)Maintaining tact and diplomacy when speaking with staff, and assisting them to thoughtfully manage unanticipated student behaviors.Qualified candidates must be extremely punctual, reliable, personable, and maintain a positive attitudeBenefits
