Senior Associate Scientist, Ectoparasitology

Role Description

The Parasitology Research Team is seeking a highly skilled and experience Ectoparasite Technical Specialist to lead and manage the in vitro ectoparasite assays, including establishment, optimization, and data management. This individual will also execute in vivo studies across species, including, but not limited to, rodents, dogs, cats, and livestock.

The successful candidate is expected to :

• work with various external (fleas, ticks and mosquitoes) and internal (worms) parasites from large and small animals.
• design, develop, and execute in vitro ectoparasite assays.
• assist in the day-to-day management of parasite colonies including developing, writing and maintaining Animal Use Protocols.
• assist in refining existing models or develop novel parasite models to facilitate project progression.
• ensure approval by internal and external review bodies, including IACUC, for planned studies.
• organize the study set-up in collaboration with appropriate internal and external counterparts.
• act as an investigator or monitor on planned studies.
• assist with drafting study design, protocols, and final study reports.
• independently assess challenges and prepare complex decisions with innovative solutions.
• perform data validation and prepare data for analysis.
• experience with electronic data capture systems or have a keen interest in learning to work with these systems.
• train and supervise junior staff, technicians, and interns in ectoparasite assay techniques.
• participate in project team meetings.
• present data internally within the team and across lines.
• work independently and as part of a team.
