The Learning Coach collaborates with Family Teachers, program leadership, and external educational partners, as appropriate, to ensure students participating in virtual or alternative learning remain on track toward their educational goals.

Scope: The Learning Coach provides direct academic oversight and daily instructional support for youth participating in virtual, online, or alternative educational programs within the residential setting. This role is responsible for maintaining a structured learning environment, supporting implementation of individualized education plans, and promoting student accountability and engagement during designated school hours.

The Learning Coach works collaboratively with Family Teachers and program leadership to align academic expectations with daily routines and behavioral supports and communicates with external educational partners as appropriate to support student progress. This position operates within established educational frameworks and program guidelines

Schedule: This position follows a school-year calendar and is typically scheduled during standard school hours. Anticipated hours are approximately 7 hours per day, generally between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., aligned with the instructional schedule of the program's on-site micro-school and virtual learning needs. This role does not work during summer break or scheduled school holidays. Actual hours may vary slightly based on student schedules, academic programming needs, and testing or instructional requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide daily academic supervision and instructional support to youth engaged in virtual, online, or alternative educational programs during designated school hours.
  • Maintain a structured, organized classroom environment that promotes focus, engagement, and accountability for learning.
  • Support youth in following assigned academic schedules, completing coursework, and meeting educational expectations outlined in their individualized education plans.
  • Monitor student progress across virtual platforms and alternative instructional formats, identifying concerns related to engagement, attendance, or academic performance.
  • Communicate academic progress, challenges, and successes with program leadership and Family Teachers to support coordinated care and consistent expectations.
  • Collaborate with external educational partners, as appropriate, to support student learning, clarify assignments or expectations, and address academic concerns.
  • Reinforce Teaching Family Model principles within the classroom setting by teaching, modeling, and supporting skill development related to responsibility, self-regulation, and appropriate school behavior.
  • Maintain accurate and timely academic documentation in accordance with program expectations and educational requirements.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, trainings, and professional development activities related to education, youth development, and trauma-responsive practice.
  • Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements while supporting youth in educational settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Professional Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of virtual, online, and alternative educational models and the ability to support students across multiple instructional platforms.
  • Ability to maintain a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes focus, accountability, and academic engagement.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills to support daily schedules, monitor student progress, and communicate academic needs effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with residential staff, program leadership, and external educational partners to support student success.
  • Capacity to apply trauma-responsive and developmentally appropriate approaches when supporting youth in educational settings.
  • Ability to teach, model, and reinforce skills aligned with the Teaching Family Model within the classroom environment.
  • Strong documentation skills to ensure academic records and progress updates are accurate and timely.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, human services, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience working with youth in educational, residential, or structured support settings may be considered instead of a degree.
  • Experience supporting youth in classroom, virtual learning, alternative education, or structured academic support environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with youth in residential, group care, or similar settings is a plus.
