Job Profile Summary
Under general direction, this district-wide administrative position is responsible for assisting the AVP for Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness in the administration and oversight of the Department of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness. Design short-term and long-term strategies for continuous improvement of Campus Safety. The incumbent may be assigned to coordinate and oversee the operational aspects of the organization or the support and administrative functions, as well as act on behalf of the AVP in his / her absence.
Minimum Education :
- Master’s degree required.
- Preferred : Master’s degree in Public Administration, Organizational Learning and Leadership, or a Law Enforcement / Public Safety specialization field.
Minimum Experience / Training :
Ten years of law enforcement experience with at least five years of supervisory experience within a law enforcement entity and or criminal justice / academic institution.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Graduation from at least one advanced law enforcement executive certification program, such as :FBI LEEDA ProgramFBI National AcademyPERF – Senior Management Institute for PoliceSouthern Police Institute - Administrative Officers CourseSouthern Police Institute - Command Officers Development CourseExperience in law enforcement or public safety recruitment / background screening process.Experience with managing components of a law enforcement / public safety budget.Prior work experience within an educational organization.Minimum Certification / Licenses :
Valid Class E Florida Driver’s license required.Preferred Certifications

Participates and implements strategic planning and oversight in areas of budgeting, purchasing, personnel, records and parking services.Executes the operational plan for the Campus Safety department and provides direction, to ensure alignment with the division’s and College’s mission and vision.Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, staff development and trainingResponsible for policy recommendation, implementation and interpretation. Ensures department directives and college policies are uniformly followed.Evaluates law enforcement / public safety programs, practices, and equipment for review / recommendation to senior leadership and or department head..Responsible for planning and managing operations, investigations, and special events with law enforcement officials, departments, contractual agencies, and other external groups.Attends meetings, make presentations, and serve on committees as directed.Responds to critical incidents and makes notifications as needed.Responsible for evaluating, developing, and mentoring staff in a law enforcement organization or criminal justice entity.Develops comprehensive executive reports for senior leadership and or department head of investigations, programs, processes, special event planning and after-action reviews.Performs related duties as assignedOur Culture - At Broward College, our leaders embody a culture of competence, care, character, composure, and courage.
