Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5507 $6677 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6221 $13224 per month
Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6825 $14523 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8593 $15211 per month

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

Position Summary:

The Sociology Department in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2026-27 academic year. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment is a M.A in Sociology or other relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching sociology to diverse students.

Responsibilities:

Lecturers will teach one or more sections of courses for which the Department Chair deems them qualified. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department:

We are a passionate student-centered department with engaged faculty. We train students to think critically ask big questions and understand how people and institutions shape the world around us. Our students gain skills in gathering and interpreting data communicating insights that matter and using story-based strategies to frame social problems and propose solutions to them. The Sociology Department has two undergraduate programs:an on-campus program and a parallel Distance Education program. We have more than 550 majors 70% of which are Distance Education students from a wide variety of ages backgrounds and geographical locations around California. We emphasize upper-division course offerings but offer several in-person lower-division courses as part of the General Education program for the campus as well as contribute courses to several of the upper-division GE Pathways.
