Job Description :
Laboratory Management
- Modify, and implement training programs that allow students and collaborators to utilize laboratory equipment and space safely and in compliance with UF policies and regulations.
- Manage and coordinate access to laboratory equipment and space to promote timely completion of research projects.
- Monitor the condition of scientific equipment and develop / implement maintenance protocols that ensure accuracy and quality of experimental data.
- Manage purchasing and invoicing (incoming and outgoing) related to supplies and vendors of scientific equipment.
- Communicate with and oversee laboratory users to maintain safe, clean, and orderly laboratory conditions.
Research Activities
Modify, and implement efficient means to catalogue experimental data, experimental metadata, and environmental samples.Modify experimental design of field, greenhouse, and laboratory trials.Conduct statistical and graphical summary of data.Contribute to the preparation of scientific presentations, scientific publications, technical reports, and progress reports for research sponsors, with appropriate co-authorship entitlement.Laboratory Analysis
Prepare and analyze environmental samples for chemical, physical, and / or biological characterization.Quantify analyte concentrations using standard reference curves and appropriate quality control protocols.Aid in the optimization and testing of existing methods and procedures and modify as needed to meet specific project goals.Field Work Coordination
Coordinate with supervisors and students to drive to and from research sites located throughout Florida research sites. On rare occasions, travel to neighboring states (e.g., South Georgia or Southeast Alabama) may occur.Assist in the evaluation, modification, and implementation of standard methods to collect soil, water, and plant samples.Expected Salary :

Required Qualifications :
Must have valid Florida driver's license. Field work will require the ability to carry material and supplies (e.g., fertilizer bags) up to 50 lbs.
This position will often involve working with graduate and undergraduate students that may be very inexperienced. Subsequently this position requires an unwavering positive and nurturing demeanor as well as constant vigilance related to safety and quality control.
Preferred :
Preference will be given to applicants that :
a. have experience with any of the following analytical techniques : wet chemistry including plant digestions, soil extractions, and water analyses; preparation of extracts for analysis; inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, UV / Vis spectrophotometry for elemental concentrations and soil health indicators, and / or microplate fluorimetry for soil enzyme analyses; soil phosphorus fractionation; and multispectral imaging;b. have trained and worked alongside students in field and laboratory settings;c. have successfully grown plants for research purposes in field and / or greenhouse conditions;d. have digitally compiled, managed and analyzed (with basic statistical tests) large data sets;e. are willing and able to work outside for long periods of time in humid, hot, and wet environments.
f. have a degree in biology, chemistry, plant science soil science or a closely related field.
