Seasonal Maintenance Worker

This job is posted by The City of Wichita. It is seasonal work maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds and / or equipment. Employees may perform a variety of these tasks or focus on only one kind of task. Work is supervised and inspected as needed for each situation. Examples of work performed include : performing basic maintenance and repair tasks, maintaining golf carts, performing basic carpentry, painting, sheetrock and / or plumbing work, performing routine custodial and / or grounds maintenance tasks, performing basic irrigation work, participating in snow removal operations, assisting with response to emergency situations, and operating a vehicle to complete work assignments. Requirements of work include : some knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance work, some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance work, ability to use hand tools, portable power tools and other equipment needed to complete work tasks, ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed, ability to repetitively bend, twist, stoop, kneel, squat and reach as necessary, ability to lift and carry bulky items, ability to stand and / or walk for up to 8 hrs. per day, ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, ability to tolerate minor exposure to chemicals used in maintenance and repair tasks, ability to tolerate airborne environmental nuisances such as machine exhaust and dust, and wet, slippery surfaces, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, ability to communicate orally clearly and effectively, ability to read, interpret and apply information contained in technical manuals and instructions, ability to shovel snow and lift the load up to four feet high, and / or operate power snow removal equipment, ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license.
