No Job Type Full-Time Working Hours Position Summary The Assistant Director of the Honors Program is responsible for managing various administrative and programmatic operations of the Honors Program in accordance with the program’s mission to provide an immersive, enriched, and personalized academic experience for undergraduates across the university. These activities include advising Honors students and collaborating on advising Honors students; coordinating course scheduling; managing program recruiting; supervising student workers; planning and participating in Honors Program events; assisting in planning the Honors Program’s curricular and co-curricular initiatives; alumni outreach; managing public-facing communication, including social media; and representing the Honors Program with campus partners.

The Assistant Director interacts regularly with students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies to represent the Honors Program and promote its initiatives. The Assistant Director serves in the Director’s place in the Director’s absence.This is an at-will, exempt, administrative position that reports directly to the Director of the Honors Program and indirectly to the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Success.

The salary for this position is $60,000 annually.

  • Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • Verifiable successful experience working with high-achieving undergraduate students.
  • Ability to work in a timely manner, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment in establishing and maintaining good working relationships and confidentiality of student information.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • A positive and professional demeanor is a must.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between and work at both the Chicago loop and Schaumburg campuses.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with undergraduate honors programs
  • Familiarity or knowledge of student advising, including academic interventions
  • Experience and / or familiarity with curriculum and teaching at the high school or university level
  • Experience with conducting, facilitating, or teaching the academic research process
  • Experience with undergraduate student recruiting
  • Experience working with undergraduate students from under-represented populations
  • Equipment Operated

  • Office equipment (desktop computer, office copier and phone).
  • May use a laptop for presentations.
  • Working Conditions Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and / or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of laptop or desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand / wrist movement and repetition. Low level of stress. Occasional travel within the regional setting is required. Office or workstation on the Schaumburg campus may be shared.   • Advise students on Honors Program course selection and program progress and collaborate with Office of Advising on Honors student advising.
  • Communicate regularly with Honors students about curricular and co-curricular matters.
  • Communicate with Honors student organization / organization advisor.
  • Supervise and mentor student employees.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, campus, and parties interested in the Honors Program; represent the Honors Program at recruiting events on campus.
  • Gather and circulate information on student research, presentation, publication opportunities.
  • Coordinate the Honors Program recruiting and application process, including collaborating with campus partners and Honors Program Director.
  • Instruction of Honors signature curriculum and co-curriculum, including research and high-impact learning experiences (on and off campus)
