Description :

The unit features 20 LDRPs and 5 OB assessment beds.

Patient ratios are 1 : 3-4 for couplets, and 1 : 1 for all active labors, VBACs, laboring magnesium sulfate, and laboring insulin.

Triage, early labor, and cervical ripening have a ratio of 1 : 1-2.

Unit staffing includes a unit secretary Monday through Friday, and PCTs Monday through Friday from 0300 to 1130.

An OB scrub tech is available 24 / 7.

The unit is equipped with GE fetal monitors and the Novii system.

Documentation is done using CPN and Meditech.

Scheduling is managed through Timpani, with preferences strongly considered.

There is no floating policy.

The patient experience mandates bedside shift report every shift.

Advanced skills required include couplet care and circulating in the OR.

Procedures performed on the unit include vaginal deliveries, versions, C-sections, epidurals, postpartum tubals, cerclage removal, and circumcisions.

Dress code requires shocking pink scrubs, with no pale pink or mauve allowed.

The unit has received recognition, such as the HCA unit of distinction award in 2021.

The unit focuses on innovative solutions to enhance the workload of nurses and improve overall patient experience and outcomes.
