Description:
This position is for an RN in the Emergency Department.
The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Designation Teaching Hospital.
The unit has 61 beds plus surge capacity.
Patient types include chest pain, strokes, diabetes, abdominal pain, motor vehicle collisions, hypertension, stabbings, and mental health issues.
Patient ratios are 1 RN to 4 patients, depending on the assigned zone.
Support staff includes CNAs for various patient care tasks.
A unit secretary and charge nurse are present on the unit.
The hospital has 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage.
Telemetry monitoring is managed by a central telemetry team.
Experience with drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed is required.
The EMR system in use is Epic.
The unit utilizes various technologies and equipment including VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, PCA pain management systems, and bladder scanners.
Scheduling includes weekend rotations, with expectations to work one shift of each major holiday.
Requests for time off require manager approval.
Teamwork is emphasized within the fast-paced environment of the department.
