Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager, Facilities Engineering plays a key role in driving complex capital projects that enhance and expand our biologics manufacturing capabilities. This individual will lead multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously—ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.

In this role, you'll oversee the design and execution of facility and process-related capital projects such as HVAC and utility system upgrades, laboratory and infrastructure renovations, cryogenic storage expansions, and biologics cell culture or purification improvements. You'll also provide technical guidance to Operations and cross-functional partners to support the introduction of new technologies, including automation, single-use systems, and process analytical tools (PAT).

The Senior Project Manager will collaborate closely with Maintenance, Calibration, Validation, Automation, and Facilities teams from project initiation through completion—ensuring compliance with engineering best practices, regulatory requirements, and company standards while driving continuous improvement across site infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Completes regular assignments independently, with minimal supervisory guidance. Seeks assistance as needed for issues not covered by established policies or procedures. Work is reviewed periodically for progress and evaluated upon completion for overall adequacy and results.
  • Designs and manages multiple facilities-related capital projects (including HVAC and utility systems, process improvements, infrastructure repairs, and renovations) to ensure delivery on time, within budget, safely, and in alignment with client and site requirements.
  • Ensures all projects comply with good engineering practices, LBA policies, applicable regulations, and codes.
  • Coordinates projects with site PM/PdM, Calibration, Utilities, and other supporting departments from initiation through closure to ensure systems are properly designed, constructed, and documented.
  • Coordinates facility-related activities to optimize operations and reliability while minimizing capital expenditures.
  • Promotes a strong safety culture by ensuring safety is prioritized throughout all project phases and providing leadership to both internal staff and external contractors.
  • Identifies and implements innovative and cost-effective solutions in project design, functionality, and construction.
  • Provides recommendations and technical expertise to improve and maintain facilities infrastructure.
  • Offers technical support to Operations to ensure efficient integration of new systems, technologies, or processes.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required; advanced degree and/or Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive engineering experience, ideally within facilities, utilities, or capital project environments.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver practical, compliant solutions in a fast-paced, regulated setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of GMP-regulated engineering environments and the delivery of complex capital projects within pharmaceutical manufacturing settings.
  • Applies strong focus on safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence while ensuring compliance with good engineering practices, company policies, regulations, and codes.
  • Effectively manages projects using internal technicians and external contractors, maintaining safety and performance standards throughout all project phases.
  • Skilled in scoping projects based on client requirements, developing cost estimates, preparing Capital Appropriation Requests (CARs), and creating detailed project schedules.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of facilities and building maintenance operations, including utilities infrastructure and reliability programs.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of regulatory, environmental, GMP/GLP, and OSHA requirements relevant to engineering and construction projects.
  • Understands the design, construction, and operation of laboratories, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, and utility plants.
