POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the supervision of the Health Center Director, the Camp Nurse will assist the Head Nurse with the general operation of the Health Center, focusing on the medical care and well-being of our Campers and Staff.
They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Support the Head Nurse in ensuring camper and staff safety.
- Safeguard and assist with administering prescription medications per dosage and schedule.
- Foster a professional, team-oriented relationship with nursing staff and volunteer physicians.
- Contribute to a comprehensive health system promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.
- Participate in twice-daily sick call (clinic).
- Assist volunteer physicians and support medication administration as needed.
- Share in nursing rotations, including infirmary and night duty.
- Accompany campers or staff to medical appointments or hospital visits when necessary.
- Accurately document all care in medical charts.
- Triage, assess, and provide care to all individuals presenting to the health center.
- Maintain the camp lab per Health Department and vendor requirements.
- Communicate effectively with parents, documenting all calls and visits per policy.
- Complete workers' compensation forms for staff and incident reports for campers.
- Respond appropriately to urgent care needs.
- Assist in cleaning and sanitizing the Health Center to maintain safety standards.
- Model strong relationship-building skills with campers, staff, and families.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with community partners.
- Ensure clear and consistent communication within assigned responsibilities.
- Rotate night duty as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must be a minimum of a Registered Nurse with an active North Carolina Nursing License or license that is endorsed by the NLC.Minimum 1-3 years experience as a Nurse required. Pediatric experience preferred.Must have an active CPR certification.Possess strong assessment skills. Ability to adapt to different environments and work on a dynamic team of nurses from diverse clinical backgrounds.Must have good organizational, communication and documentation skills.Should be a caring individual who possesses a willingness to participate in camp.Able to work in potentially high-stress or emergency situations and be able to work variable and overnight hours.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Multi-lingual desired but not required.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
