About the Role:
We are seeking highly motivated physicians for our Non-ACGME Fellowship Program in Ophthalmology. Fellows will gain advanced clinical and surgical experience in subspecialties such as cornea, retina, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastics. This program is designed for individuals who have completed an accredited residency and are looking to deepen their expertise in a focused area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in patient care, surgical procedures, and academic activities.
• Engage in research and scholarly projects within the department.
• Collaborate with faculty and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional care.

Fellowship Description:

• A one year fellowship spent exploring and understanding the challenges of eye care delivery in low resource settings and disadvantaged communities. This includes inner city communities, rural communities and international settings. The fellow will gain pivotal knowledge of the burden of eye disease, barriers to eye care and public health tenets to address the gaps in eye care delivery. They will gain practical knowledge and experience working within the communities, assessing needs and developing programs. They will work with our partners to ensure equitable care to all.
  
• For graduates of a . ACGME Ophthalmology residency the year will consist of clinical and surgical work at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta as well as with our international partners, including Honduras and Ethiopia, as well as with our outreach partners across Georgia. Approximately 6mo of the fellowship will be spent abroad with our partners.
  
• For IMGs and medical students the year will be primarily research based. The fellow will assist in needs assessments, community trainings and outreach both domestically and internationally. They will be involved in our numerous programs and undertake a research project assessing stakeholder needs, disparities in care or program impact. Clinical exposure will be provided but the fellow will not be the primary clinician in any locale. While the fellowship is primarily . based, the fellow will participate in 2-3 international trips with our faculty and partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PGY4 residents of an . ACGME Ophthalmology Residency

• Medical students and foreign medical graduates*

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A doctoral degree or equivalent (., ., ScD., ., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
• Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
• Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
