The Quality Assurance Inspector with CMM is responsible for the inspection of components, assemblies and subassemblies to ensure that quality standards are maintained. Primary duties will be using a coordinate measure machine (CMM), and developing inspection plans using electronic models or component prints. The Quality Assurance Inspector with CMM will be verifying supplier measurements, providing measure data to engineering for verification as well as following specified inspection plans. While the primary duties will be performed at the Newport News facility, the incumbent will be required to visit suppliers and customers, as needed.
Responsibilities
- Incumbent must be able to complete all the duties of the Quality Assurance Inspector.
- Performs mechanical inspection of materials, finished machined parts and machined castings throughout the manufacturing process from initial part qualification to final inspection using stationary and / or portable measuring equipment.
- Operates a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of a part. Thorough knowledge of CMM operation and programming. Must be able to read and comprehend in-depth blue prints and geometric tolerancing.
- Assures all pieces are within specified geometric tolerances required and are in compliance with engineered drawings and company specifications.
- Communicates with various departments in verbal and written form, and documents inspection results in required format. Creates and summaries reports detailing actual measurements and conformance to requirements.
- Performs additional inspections such as review of certified material test reports (CMTR), calibration certifications, etc.
- Creates and maintains quality inspection plans and programs.
- Generates Non-conforming material reports and verifies inspection results on nonconforming products.
- Performs audits as directed.
Competencies
Education and Experience : High School Diploma or Trade School completion certification. Candidate must have a minimum of five years of metrology / quality control experience and have a strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions and decimals. Ability to apply basic concepts of geometry related to angles, cylinders and planes.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Knowledge of MS Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, Access);
