The Surgical and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) is equipped with 30 specialized care beds dedicated to critically ill adult patients aged 14 and older. Our unit accommodates a balanced patient population, with approximately 50% neuro cases and 50% surgical cases.
Our focus includes providing exceptional care for patients facing life-threatening conditions stemming from major elective and emergency surgeries, multi-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, strokes, seizures, sepsis / multi-organ system failures, hemodynamic issues, and difficulties with weaning from life support.
As a key member of our team, you will be skilled in a number of advanced procedures, including :
- ICP monitoring via EVD or bolt
- Spinal drains and catheters
- Brain oxygen monitoring
- Artic Sun therapy
- Continuous EEG
- Intra-arterial catheter management
- Non-invasive cardiac output monitoring
- Mechanical ventilation
- Continuous renal replacement therapy
- Reconstructive flap monitoring
- Massive blood transfusion protocols
You will support various on-unit procedures, including :
Placement of arterial lines and central linesExternal ventricular drains and ICP monitorsSEPS drainsBedside bronchoscopyAbdominal washoutsTracheostomy and PEG tube placementLumbar puncturesChest tubes and pigtail drainsYour responsibilities will include :
Implementing physician orders, administering medications, starting IVs, and performing treatments in accordance with company policy and state / federal regulations.Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.Conducting thorough assessments and evaluations of patient needs and responses to care.Applying sound nursing judgment in patient care management.Providing primary and emergency care for a variety of injuries and illnesses.Collaborating with the nursing team to develop comprehensive Plans of Care for all patients.Directing and guiding ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards.Requirements :
Graduate of a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor’s Degree).Current NYS Registered Nurse license.Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).Strong communication, prioritization, organizational, and time-management skills.Knowledge of quality concepts and principles, with the ability to apply them to enhance patient care quality.Thank you for considering a career with Albany Medical Center!
