Position summary

We are looking for a visionary UI/UX Designer to join our Engineering team and shape the visual and functional future of the WallStreetBets mobile app and website. In this role, you will be building intuitive, high-energy, and entertaining yet informative experiences that help users make better financial decisions.

You will stand at the intersection of serious financial tooling and internet culture. Your challenge is to make institutional-grade data accessible to the everyday trader while retaining the distinct "meme-centric" identity that makes WSB unique. We need a designer who understands that a user interface should be as exciting as the market volatility itself, without sacrificing clarity or usability.
What you'll do

• End-to-End Design: Lead the design process from conceptualization to hand-off, creating user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes for both web and mobile applications.
• Data Visualization: Build world class real-time market data tools (charts, option chains, heatmaps) that are intuitive, actionable, and visually stunning.
• User Research & Testing: Collaborate with users to understand the unique behaviors of the retail trader. Conduct usability testing to validate design decisions and iterate based on community feedback.
• Design System Management: Build and maintain a scalable design system that ensures consistency across our products while allowing for rapid iteration by the engineering team.
• Bridge the Gap: Work closely with the Engineering team to ensure design feasibility and proper implementation, advocating for the user at every stage of development.
• Gamification: Design engaging features that reward user participation and community interaction, blending social media dynamics with financial tools.

What you bring

• Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, ideally within fintech, trading platforms, or high-traffic consumer social apps.
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing a mastery of typography, color theory, layout, and, most importantly, complex data visualization and mobile-first design.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Figma (our primary tool)
• User-Centric Mindset: A deep understanding of user-centered design principles (UCD) and the ability to defend your design choices with data and logic.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote, global environment.
• Adaptability: The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where priorities can shift quickly.

Bonus

• Domain Knowledge: A genuine interest in the stock market, crypto, or personal finance. Familiarity with r/wallstreetbets culture and lingo is a plus.
• Motion Design: Experience with After Effects or Lottie to add delight and micro-interactions to the user interface.
• Frontend Basics: Basic understanding of HTML/CSS/React (you don't need to code, but you need to know how your designs are built).
• Web3/DeFi Experience: Previous experience designing for decentralized finance applications.
