The Mayerson JCC connects people so that they can live happier and fuller lives creating a more vibrant Jewish community. The JCC helps to foster social connections between its members and guests alike bringing people together through a wide variety of programs and events. With an expansive fitness center highly regarded early childhood school and senior center arts and cultural events offered throughout the year and classes for every age the JCC connects enriches and inspires over 27000 visitors per month. The JCC welcomes and engages everyone regardless of race religion or ability.

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with other members of our shows creative team the Music Director will oversee all musical aspects of our musical production including assisting with casting performers teaching the score and rehearsing singers. The Music Directors job is to understand how songs and music serve a shows story setting drama and emotional context and to bring out those critical elements in high quality and consistent performances.

The music director will also function as the assistant director for the duration of the production. Candidates should be familiar with blocking note-taking assistant teaching helping manage student behavior and assisting with stage management.

Rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 : 30 7 : 00pm and Sunday from 4 -5pm starting January 2026 through May 2026 with additional days for tech week. Show dates are May 13 14 and 17 with tech rehearsals running from April 30 May 11. There are no Friday or Saturday obligations.

CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Comfortable working with children ages 5 14
• Experience in musical theatre
• Strong music skills and music instruction experience with children
• Ability to read music and play piano
• Strong communication and organizational skills and is personally engaging and friendly
• Assist the Theatre Director to ensure that all musical numbers are successful
• Other duties as assigned
