Essential Job Functions
- Provides direct care to residents.
- Administers medications and / or treatments for residents on unit, adhering to facility policies and procedures and skill level of personnel.
- Follows specifically written physician’s orders.
- Organizes / sets-up med carts; delivers medications to appropriate residents.
- Administers oral, topical, suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.
- Follows all pharmacy and drug administration policies and procedures.
- Confers with licensed nurse before administering PRN medications.
- Adhere to specific administration requirements (ac, pc, etc.) as well as correct time of administration.
- Verifies start and stop dates on orders before administering.
- Documents all medications administered according to facility policies and procedures.
- Maintains scheduled drug records.
- Inventories controlled drugs by counting medications at the start and end of each shift with licensed staff.
- Assists with proper disposition of drugs.
- Checks with charge nurse before administering medications when there is a question.
- Implements restorative nursing measures, correct aseptic techniques, and other infection control measures when providing nursing care.
- Provides total care for a selected group of residents as necessary.
Supervises resident care.
Supervises nursing assistants.Makes daily rounds visiting each resident at least twice to report resident condition and responses to treatment.Assures that goals and approaches are current on the resident care plan and are conveyed to the nursing staff.Observes direct care administered by staff ensuring safe effective care is given in a timely manner as well as completion of other assigned duties.Supervises completion of daily and weekly documentation in the resident medical record, resident care plan and other required forms.Communicates with nursing and other departments and services.
Gives oral instructions about nursing care and end-of-shift reports.Records information on changes in condition, new orders, incidents, etc. on the 24 Hours Report Form.Informs the Shift Charge Nurse or Unit Coordinator regarding changes in resident physical, emotional or behavioral status.Contributes to the plan of care for residents, according to resident needs and policy, in order to promote continuity of care form admission through discharge or transfer.Job Qualifications
Education / Traininga) Completion of the State approved course and examination with current qualificationsExperiencea) Preferred 1 year of experience in long term care facility.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :a ) Ability to read, write, speak ad understand English.b) Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical procedures.c) Strong verbal and interpersonal skillsEquipment
