Must have current provider BLS certification or achieve certification within 60 days of hire. Must maintain certification throughout employment. JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs advanced nonprofessional nursing work involving a variety of bedside nursing duties in a hospital and long-term acute care setting. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an inpatient and ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires long periods of standing and walking in the hospital. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift 50. Incumbent must be able to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following : Alert nurses of any changes in patient's condition. Performs simple tests / collects specimen on patients such as spirometer, EKG, and urinalysis. Obtains and records vital signs including body temperature, height, weight, and blood pressure. Maintains patient confidentiality. Answers patient call lights and assists patients with needs. Gives excellent personal care to patients which includes bathing, dressing, hygiene activities in a timely manner. Measuring and recording food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output and reporting changes to medical or nursing staff. Turning and repositioning bedridden patients. Responsible for stocking patient rooms, taking inventory, and assuring patient refrigerator is fully stocked. Assists in training and orienting new aides to facility and applicable procedures. Floats to other units, floors, Hospitals as needed. Provide adjunct care for the patient, including ice packs, non-sterile dressings and therapeutic baths. Adhere to professional standards, follow policies and procedures and abide by federal, state and local requirements Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses. Stay up to date on CNA training and facility policy and procedure. As needed, functions as sitter for patients requiring 1 : 1 care. Performs various duties as directed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
