The Educator will be part of a perioperative service line known for advanced specialties, a culture of safety, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Central Sterile Manager within Perioperative Services, the Hospital Sterile Processing Educator will collaborate daily with OR leadership, Infection Prevention, Quality, Materials Management, and Biomedical Engineering. The Hospital Sterile Processing Educator will mentor preceptors, leads, and technicians across all shifts, while partnering with surgeons, anesthesia, and procedural area leaders to align education with clinical needs. Additionally, the role will coordinate with Supply Chain and vendor representatives to standardize instrument sets and support readiness for high-volume cases.
The Hospital Sterile Processing Educator supports a 24 / 7 Sterile Processing Department that services operating rooms plus endoscopy, interventional radiology, cardiology, labor and delivery, and ambulatory sites. The Educator will help guide a skilled, multi-shift team that processes thousands of instruments weekly using steam and low-temp sterilization, borescopes, ultrasonic cleaning, and instrument tracking.
The Hospital Sterile Processing Educator will design onboarding and ongoing education grounded in AAMI standards, AORN guidance, manufacturer IFUs, and regulatory requirements; lead competency assessments, skills labs, and in-services; and drive initiatives that reduce IUSS, improve tray accuracy, and elevate patient safety. The position will maintain policies and procedures, steward the competency and QA programs, analyze quality dashboards, support preference card accuracy, and prepare the department for surveys and audits. The Hospital Sterile Processing Educator will coordinate an education calendar for day-shift coverage (Monday-Friday, approximately 7 : 00 a.m.-3 : 00 p.m.) while remaining visible to off-shifts as needed for coaching and support.
