ResponsibilitiesP&C Underwriting is seeking a data analyst on the Strategic Advancement Team. This role will provide an opportunity to demonstrate deep technical knowledge, own and support data processes and strategy to support New Business and Re-underwriting model threshold work, solve complex problems, collaborate with different business partners, and lead Portfolio Management data analysis initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Query and aggregate data sets from different sources/platforms to support business objectives.
- Conduct data analysis and field ad hoc data requests from business partners and leadership.
- Manage data quality to ensure accuracy in reporting, projection, and analytic efforts.
- Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) through dashboarding and reporting, often in collaboration with other areas.
- Collaborate on underwriting strategy within Underwriting & with Enterprise business partners.
- Support the creation of visualizations and maps using tools such as Python, Power BI, and GIS.
- Help develop and maintain automated reports and notebooks in cloud environments such as AWS SageMaker.
- Steward data methodologies and calculations to enhance consistency.
- Communicate findings clearly, with support, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Identify and clarify data quality pain points and opportunities for improvements.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Coach peers on data processes and strategies.
- Ability to effectively utilize business intelligence data systems, models, financial/statistical resources, and analytical software applications in the creation of reports, charts, and visuals.
- Ability to summarize metrics for reporting and identify corrective actions.
- May apply specialized knowledge of research/statistical techniques.
- Establishes positive relationships and coordinates work across teams and departments.
- Ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Incumbency: This position will have a 12-month incumbency period for a lateral move and a 6-month incumbency period for a promotional opportunity (beginning on the effective date of the position) which must be met before the employee can post for any other State Farm position. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
WORK ARRANGEMENT: This position is a HYBRID role and will require some time spent in the office as well as time working from home. You must reside in the same state AND within miles of either Bloomington, Illinois; Dunwoody, Georgia; Richardson, Texas or Tempe, Arizona.
QualificationsRequired
- Experience navigating different generations of data structures.
- Experience working with or adjacent to data models.
- Proficient in BI Tooling (i.e., Power BI, Qlik, Quick Sight).
- Advanced skills within the Microsoft suite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Master’s Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree in data Analytics or adjacent discipline
Desired
- Proficiency in SQL and Python
- Familiarity with AWS Suite and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Experience working in GitLab or other versioning software.
- Experience working with artificial intelligence or simulations
- Experience with fraud, arial imagery or telematics
