About the role

Position :   Vice President, Strategic Partnerships

Reports to :  Chief Strategy Officer

Department :  Advocacy

Pay Rate :  $165,000- $185,000 yr.

The Vice President (VP) of Strategic Partnerships is an influential, forward-thinking executive leader responsible for amplifying Community Action Marin’s reach, reputation, and long-term impact. In this highly visible role, the VP serves as a strategic architect of collaboration and aligning cross-sector partners, community leaders, philanthropic institutions, and public systems to advance equity and economic mobility in Marin County.

As the agency enters a pivotal era of transformation and growth, this leader will harness CAM’s credibility, momentum, and community trust to drive bold initiatives that :

Expand the region’s collective investment in families and communities Build and deepen partnerships that accelerate systems change and resource mobilization for key strategic priorities Elevate community voice and lived experience in decision-making Strengthening CAM’s ability to meet emerging needs with scale, innovation, and unity

This role blends strategy, relationship cultivation, vision, and influence; this leader is positioned at the crossroads of community power-building, advocacy, resource mobilization, and organizational alignment with CAM’s Levers for Change and strategic priorities.  The VP embodies CAM’s commitment to equity, collaboration, and shared leadership, ensuring that every partnership advances meaningful outcomes and drives lasting community transformation.  Strategic Leadership & Cross-Agency Alignment

Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, CSO, CPO, and executive leadership, ensuring partnership strategy is tightly aligned with CAM’s 5-year plan, values, and movement-building levers. Create the conditions for collaboration across departments, ensuring strategy is not just developed, but lived through agency-wide systems, accountability, and clear decision-making pathways. Bring a high degree of foresight and strategic intelligence to the agency, identifying opportunities, risks, and emerging trends that shape CAM’s role in Marin County. Advance a culture of unity, transparency, and cross-functional alignment that elevates CAM’s visibility and strengthens its long-term impact.

Partnership Development & Resource Mobilization

Cultivate relationships with leaders in philanthropy, government, K-12 education, early childhood, housing, business, and community-based organizations to expand CAM’s reach and influence. Activate new streams of philanthropic, public, and cross-sector investment that strengthen CAM’s capacity to deliver community-responsive services and policy solutions. Lead a strategic approach to business development rooted not only in funding, but in shared vision, aligned priorities, and long-term community benefit. Represent CAM with confidence, integrity, and presence across high-level convenings, coalitions, and regional leadership forums.

Community Engagement, Power-Building & Advocacy Integration

Amplify and elevate community voice, ensuring those most affected by inequity shape CAM’s strategies and the region’s solutions. Grow and activate coalitions, advisory councils, and community leadership bodies that advance systems change. Partner closely with the Advocacy and Learning & Evaluation functions to strengthen evidence-informed messaging, policy positions, and community engagement opportunities. Work at the intersection of narrative change, power building, and policy, ensuring CAM’s voice remains a trusted, compelling, and data-grounded force in the region.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Organizational Influence

Guide program leaders in aligning partnership strategy with program vision, growth goals, and geographic priorities. Strengthen internal framing and messaging and unify CAM’s presence across community engagement efforts so the agency speaks with a consistent, compelling voice. Help define and accelerate scaling strategies, ensuring partnerships unlock opportunities for expansion, innovation, and operational excellence. Model partnership is relational, culturally responsive, and rooted in CAM’s values of Relationship, Service, Inclusivity, and Unity.

Project & Initiative Leadership

Lead high-visibility, cross-agency initiatives designed to advance strategic priorities and increase regional alignment around community needs. Contribute to resource development through high-quality proposals, thought leadership, presentations, and strategic communications. Identify and dismantle systemic barriers by guiding collaborative problem-solving, learning cycles, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Business, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, or related field preferred. Master’s degree or advanced training is strongly preferred.

Experience :

10+ years of progressive executive or senior leadership experience in nonprofit, public sector, philanthropy, or mission-driven partnership roles. Demonstrated excellence in strategic partnerships, coalition leadership, community engagement, or systems-change work. Proven success mobilizing resources across multiple sectors.

Skills and Abilities :

Visionary, relational, and strategic leadership skills, able to inspire others and move complex work forward. Exceptional communication, facilitation, and storytelling abilities. Strong political awareness, community intelligence, and ability to navigate multi-sector environments. Ability to translate complex ideas into compelling, actionable strategies. High emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and community-centered mindset. Ability to manage sensitive issues with diplomacy, discretion, and integrity. Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred. A strong commitment to social justice, equity and the agency’s mission to provide high-quality programs to serve low-income individuals and families. Deep understanding – and ability to articulate – the role equity, inclusion, and diversity plays in our work.

Software :

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications : Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer, Teams, and collaboration tools. Experience with project management, CRM systems, or evaluation platforms preferred.
