POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, presents classroom and clinical primary care education and training for Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program (ADTEP) students. Provides oral health care for patients at the ADTEP clinical sites and its allied clinics in order to maintain high-level primary care skills, improve oral health delivery and consistency in carrying out standards of care. Under limited supervision, provide administrative support to the ADTEP Educational Program.
POSITION RESPONSABILTY:
Delivers education and training to ADTEP students utilizing appropriate training, adult learning concepts and clinical facilitation skills. Assures that training systems are results-oriented, meet the Community Health Aide Program (CHAP) Certification Board Standards and Procedures, Commission on Dental Accreditation Standards and return value to the organization.
Reviews and stays current with changes in the CHAP services, technologies and policies. Develops, updates, and revises educational content. Researches, analyzes, evaluates and deploys new training materials and instructional methods.
Instructs and guides ADTEP students in the DHAT scope of practice, including; primary oral health care, oral disease prevention practices, and dental care administration. Prepares, administers and scores tests, evaluates and maintains necessary records on students. Counsels students and provides special help as needed.
Participates in committee and programmatic work to promote CHAP system efficiency and effectiveness as it relates to dental health aides. Participates in continuing education as necessary to meet changing program needs and to maintain necessary professional skills and certification.
Provides primary oral health care as required. Provides and documents dental assessments, treatments, and procedures to patients within scope of authority. Evaluates patient care and revises plan of oral care to meet individualized patient needs. Confers and consults with supervising dentist as needed. Collaborates with other professionals to provide continued care outside the limitations of the practice setting.
Provides administrative tasks and clinical support duties including; patient scheduling, clinic front desk work, support the work of the ADTEP staff and faculty, monitoring clinic equipment status, ordering clinic and office supplies, and chairside dental assisting.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal and local regulations and programs.
Knowledge of training theories and practices including adult learning principles and the development of lesson plans.
Knowledge of public health education principles and practice, programs, resources, and agencies.
Knowledge and familiarity with worksite wellness programs and related emerging research.
Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in community healthcare and patient treatment, and the use of dental equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of clinical dentistry techniques.
Knowledge of relevant clinic management, patient safety, compliance, and other risk management practices, including privacy laws and regulations.
Knowledge of the principles of medical records management, and patient file documentation procedures.
Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and politics.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Successful completion of the two (2) year ADTEP courses or its equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory - Two (2) years DHAT provider experience in a public health dentistry setting.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
CHAP Certification Board certified DHAT.
