Locum Tenens Hematology / Oncology Physician

Location : Silver Spring, Maryland

A busy oncology practice in Maryland is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Hematology / Oncology Physician to provide locum tenens coverage in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This role offers competitive rates, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to work with a collaborative, multidisciplinary cancer care team.

Position Overview : Practice Setting :

Outpatient clinic : 3–5 days per week, 8 hours / day

Inpatient on-call coverage : 7 consecutive 24-hour shifts per month (on call while in clinic)

Schedule Options :

Option 1 : M–W–F clinic + 7 consecutive 24-hour call shifts / month

Option 2 : M–F clinic + 7 consecutive 24-hour call shifts / month

Call Ratio : 1 : 4

Patient Population : Adult and geriatric (25% Hematology, 75% Oncology)

Patient Volume :

Outpatient : ≤10 patients / day

Inpatient : ≤2 patients / day

Primarily chronic management; few emergent cases

Support Staff : Patient navigator, social worker, medical assistant, and practice manager

Team : 0.5 FTE Hem / Onc physician, breast surgeon, surgical oncologist, and two radiation oncologists

EMR : Epic

Infusion Center : Chemotherapy administered offsite, 2 miles from clinic

Required Procedures & Duties :

Intracavitary / intrapleural / intraperitoneal chemotherapy

Intrathecal chemotherapy

Fine-needle aspiration / biopsy

Management of VAD / CV catheters

Tumor board participation

Blood bank responsibilities

Ordering tests, imaging, and prescriptions

Requirements

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology / Oncology

Active Maryland medical license, DEA, and CDS at time of submission

ACLS or BLS  (required for privileges)
