Purpose

Material handlers are responsible for the accurate tracking of products from arrival at Woodgrain Millwork until departure for delivery to the customer. They ensure system and physical inventory accuracy, properly executing inventory directives, and provide customer service, both internally and externally. Material handlers identify, transport and stage products within manufacturing, warehouse, and/or receiving and shipping areas. This position supports inventory warehouse management and manufacturing execution. Material handlers' interface with inventory control, manufacturing, production planning and scheduling, transportation and sister companies.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures

1. Collaborate with team members in contributing to facility wide production, inventory/warehouse and quality goals.
2. Ensure proper processing of all inventory movement transactions within data management system and subsequent traveler/unit tagging.
3. Manage and communicate inventory status and change information in a timely manner.
4. Recognize when a physical location item count is needed and communicate concerns to the appropriate Inventory Control personnel.
5. Expedite rush/hot orders to maintain on time delivery.
6. Execute safe and accurate: picking and put away, stock consolidation, product identification and tagging, staging, unloading/loading of shipments, routine equipment maintenance and housekeeping.
7. Provide support for inventory reconciliation processes, including formal physical inventory audits and cycle counts.
8. Maintain good repair of all material handling equipment and ensure proper repairs are completed when necessary.
9. Sustain a clean and orderly work environment throughout all areas of contact.
10. Actively engage in continuous improvement projects

Knowledge/Skills/Education and Continuous Training

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Prior forklift experience
• SAP experience a plus
• Readable handwriting (a plus)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical manufacturing environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
