Facilities Maintenance Technician

The City of Greenacres' Compensation Plan allows for hiring at a maximum rate of up to 15% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience and valid proof of certification(s) that are obtained through extensive program of study and training over and above the minimum requirements. Salary is based on FY26 which is effective 10-1-25.

Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Greenacres. You must be able to meet the following minimum requirements :

  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school, or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must submit to a post-offer physical examination and Level II fingerprinting. The offer of employment will be contingent on the results of testing and / or examinations.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Position Summary : Semi-skilled work involving the inspection, repair and maintenance of City buildings / facilities and their related infrastructure.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Performs inspections on buildings, park facilities and other structures to determine functionality of systems; provides Supervisor with recommendations using a pre-established inspection sheet.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations to building systems to include but not limited to flooring, interior / exterior lighting, roofing, fire suppression, fixed / portable power generators, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, small appliances and plumbing fixtures using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets).
  • Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and / or systems repair.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. repair / replacement of sinks, urinals, toilets, drains and faucets).
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brushes or rollers to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks, deadbolts, door closers, handles, etc.).
  • Inspects City facilities to identify building maintenance needs.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on City buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Completes work orders, accident reports, inspection checklists and other documents as assigned.
  • Performs various miscellaneous tasks, including but not limited to setting up for events, moving furniture and equipment and replacing flags, painting, carpentry and masonry work.
  • May be required to be on twenty-four-hour call and / or regularly work on various shifts, weekends, and / or holidays as deemed necessary.
  • Performs various miscellaneous tasks such as moving furniture and equipment, and replacing flags.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Follows City and Departmental safety rules and regulations.
  • Follows safety procedures and utilizes personal protection equipment as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Knowledge of :

  • Occupational hazards, environmental regulations and compliance thereof, and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Skilled trades related to building and facilities repair and maintenance.
  • Equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of public facilities.
  • Installation and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Computer software including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.

    • Ability to :

  • Pass FDLE and CJIS Security Clearance : As mandated by the FDLE, CJIS and PBSO, this position may be subject to additional security clearances due to access to the Sheriff's department facility.
  • Electronic testing of electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters.
  • Work independently and complete work assignments accurately and in a timely basis.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of HVAC units, plumbing, lighting systems, fire suppression systems and roof repairs.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations of the Department and the City.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and site work areas.
  • Read, interpret and work from specifications, schematics and plans.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative without close supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City departments, peers, vendors and general public.
  • Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Make sound decisions based on well-established procedures.
  • Respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner in accordance with stated policies.
  • Learn and apply new and existing time and work management government software.

    • Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience as a skilled tradesperson in assigned trade or performing manual work which involved the use of an acquired skill such as in building maintenance and repair work, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
