Job Title: Welding and Structural Bolting Inspector

Work Location: Birmingham, AL

Salary: Compensation will be based on experience and discussed during the interview.

Requirements: Must be a US Citizen and successfully pass a federal background review and drug screening.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough inspections and report findings on construction projects at federal facilities, ensuring compliance with established plans and specifications, focusing on workmanship and materials.
• Carry out detailed inspections of welding processes related to steel fabrication.
• Perform coating inspections and testing, evaluating various coating systems and their application methods.
• Inspect structural bolting and oversee the testing of different bolting techniques and installations.
• Advise government personnel on necessary changes regarding contract plans and specifications for all construction phases.
• Oversee the contractor's quality system and implement the three-phase inspection process effectively.
• Provide onsite surveillance during construction and assist the owner with problem resolution as needed.
• Review and manage change orders, modifications, RFIs, and submittals.
• Keep track of the contractor's project schedule to ensure timely completion.
• Ensure contractor adherence to approved QA and safety plans.
• Utilize the Resident Management System (RMS) for project management and reporting.

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma with a minimum of 5 years in construction welding inspections and at least 2 years in coating and structural bolting inspections.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector meeting the requirements of AWS QC1, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in steel fabrication.
• Nondestructive Testing (NDT) personnel must be qualified to ASNT standards.
• Coating inspection certification required (NACE Level I or higher or SSPC Protective Coatings Inspector Level 1 or higher), with formal training and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Structural Bolting Inspection certification according to AASHTO G4.2 guidelines, with formal training and at least 2 years of inspection experience.
• Familiarity with the Three-Phase QC/Inspection process is essential.
• Experience with EM 385-1-1 USACE Safety Manual preferred.
• Experience using the Resident Management System (RMS) is a plus.
