Job Summary
Join our team as an Inspector Trainee! This entry-level position provides a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on training in the inspection and sampling processes within the field. You will develop skills in completing necessary paperwork, accurately distributing samples, and effectively communicating with our office staff.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete all essential safety and orientation training required to access customer facilities.
- Work closely with a senior inspector or designated trainer to learn the fundamentals of inspection and sampling.
- Get familiar with and adhere to procedures set by the American Petroleum Institute (API), International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA), as well as specific customer and company policies.
- Carry out basic inspection and sampling tasks as assigned, which may include physical product measurements, temperature readings, sampling, and volume calculations.
- Execute assigned tasks in accordance with industry standards and supervisor instructions, maintaining prompt communication with the office regarding any changes to initial plans.
- Prepare and distribute field reports to vessels, terminals, and office staff as directed.
- Ensure proper identification and timely transportation of samples collected during your activities.
- Assist with additional tasks as necessary, as assigned by your supervisor.
Required Skills
High school diploma or relevant industry experience.Strong ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.Basic math skills, including operations in various units of measure.Proficiency in basic computer programs, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.Must have access to a licensed and insured vehicle in safe operating condition for job-related transportation. A valid driving license that complies with our Safe Driving Policy is required.Availability for job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off, with potential for overtime as needed by the branch office.Willingness to work in refineries, terminals, and on-board marine vessels as necessary.Must be responsive to communications from the office and available at all times.Attendance at monthly safety meetings is mandatory.A TWIC Card may be required for access to terminals, refineries, and other facilities.Working Conditions
Employees may encounter fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals; however, we provide essential product information, training, and protective equipment to ensure safety. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, including refineries, terminals, and marine vessels, which may involve high noise levels. Local and possibly long-distance travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires pre-employment, random, and annual drug and alcohol testing.Compliance with our Drug & Alcohol Policy is mandatory.You will need to pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness Test.Physical examinations may be required to confirm your ability to perform job functions.Qualification for an annual Respirator Fit Test is necessary.You must pass a designated blood test to work in areas with Hydrocarbon Vapors.You should be able to perform inspection duties while wearing safety equipment under various weather conditions.You will need the physical capability to stand, handle objects, communicate, and detect odors.Ability to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach regularly is required.You must be able to climb storage tank ladders and stairs (up to 100 feet high) while carrying inspection gear.Comfort working in confined spaces with appropriate safety equipment is essential.Required Experience
