Position : Implementation Lead
Location : Remote - EST / CST hours
Contract : 12 months
Rate : $75 / hr on W2
We are seeking a highly skilled Implementation Lead to oversee the successful delivery of our enterprise observability transformation. This role is responsible for driving the end-to-end migration from Splunk to Datadog, coordinating across engineering, platform, security, and business teams to ensure a seamless and well-governed transition. The ideal candidate has strong technical understanding of observability tools, exceptional project leadership skills, and hands-on experience with both Splunk and Datadog.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Implementation Leadership
Lead the full lifecycle of the Splunk-to-Datadog migration program, including planning, execution, change management, and post-migration optimization.
Coordinate multiteam implementation efforts across SRE, DevOps, application teams, security, compliance, and leadership stakeholders.
Develop and manage project timelines, deliverables, risks, and milestones for the migration.
Establish governance and best practices for logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting in Datadog.
Migration Strategy & Execution
Assess the current Splunk environment (indexes, searches, dashboards, alerts, data ingestion patterns).
Define the target Datadog architecture and map Splunk capabilities to their Datadog equivalents.
Lead the migration of logs, metrics, dashboards, monitors, alerts, and data pipelines.
Create onboarding playbooks, runbooks, and templates to help teams adopt Datadog consistently.
Ensure proper tagging, data quality, ingestion strategies, and cost optimization throughout the transition.
Technical Collaboration & Enablement
Work with platform teams to implement Datadog integrations, agents, pipelines, and automation.
Partner with application teams to onboard their services and support their migration of Splunk content.
Conduct workshops and training sessions to help teams understand Datadog capabilities and new workflows.
Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure adherence to data retention, access controls, and audit requirements.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
Validate migrated dashboards, alerts, and data sources for accuracy and performance.
Monitor adoption metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Provide post-migration support and troubleshoot issues related to data ingestion or visualization.
Drive continuous enhancements in observability maturity and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
5 7+ years of experience in implementation leadership, observability, DevOps, SRE, or related roles.
Hands-on experience with both Splunk and Datadog, including searches, dashboards, alerts, agents, and integrations.
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale Splunk-to-Datadog migrations or similar observability tool transitions.
Strong understanding of logs, metrics, traces, and monitoring architectures.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to translate technical requirements into actionable project plans.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
Background in SRE or observability engineering.
Knowledge of APM, distributed tracing, and service-level indicators (SLIs / SLOs).
Familiarity with agile project management methodologies.
Datadog or Splunk certifications.
Soft Skills

Comfortable presenting to technical and executive stakeholders.
