[job_card.job_description]High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties. Possession of a valid driver's license. (Some positions may require a Commercial Driver's License.) Supervisory principles. Grounds and facilities maintenance principles and practices. Applicable system and structure repair techniques. Applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in ground maintenance activities. Recordkeeping principles. Computers and related software applications. Safe work practices. Monitoring and evaluating employees. Prioritizing and assigning work. Maintaining grounds and facilities. Operating and maintaining applicable ground maintenance equipment and tools. Inspecting facilities, equipment, and other structures. Identifying and repairing / replacing unsafe equipment. Creating and Maintaining records. Using a computer and related software applications. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisors, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction. Balancing : Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Climbing : Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and / or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Crouching : Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Feeling : Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Fingering : Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Grasping : Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Hearing : Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination sound. Kneeling : Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Lifting : Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. It occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. Mental Acuity : Making rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. Pulling : Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Pushing : Using upper extremities to press against something steady to thrust forward, downward.
Grounds and Facilities Crew Chief – City of Clarksville
This is the fifth of seven levels in the Grounds and Facilities Maintenance series. Incumbents supervise and participate in the work of the lower levels. Responsibilities may include prioritizing and assigning tasks; monitoring work crew activities; ordering supplies; creating and maintaining records of activities; providing customer service to the public; and performing the lower level's work.

Essential Functions
- Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Performs a variety of cleaning and grounds maintenance activities in assigned area of responsibility, which may include repairing building systems and / or structures; painting interior and exterior surfaces; setting up facilities for events; and / or performing related events.
- Inspects systems, equipment, and / or structures and ensures safety requirements are met.
- Secures, locks, and opens buildings, as necessary.
- Gathers information and quotes needed for budget; forecasts staffing, equipment, and material expenses for budget planning; monitors and controls expenditures and adjusts budget items as needed.
- Responds to questions, concerns, and / or requests for service from employees, vendors, outside organizations, the public, and / or other interested parties related to the assigned area of responsibility.
- Prepares and monitors logs and operational records.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
