Position Title : Sales Engineer

Department : Proposals

Location : Santa Ana CA

FLSA Status : Exempt Full- Time

Job Summary :

The Sales Engineer Defense EMS Quoting serves as a key technical and commercial resource within the Proposals Team responsible for developing accurate compliant and competitive manufacturing quotations for Defense and Aerospace customers. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion in analyzing complex technical data defining manufacturability parameters and coordinating cross-functional input to create executable and profitable bids.

Operating at the intersection of engineering supply chain and customer engagement this role ensures that each quote aligns with company capabilities industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Sales Engineer represents the organizations technical and operational expertise during pre-award phases helping shape customer perception and program success.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Quoting Leadership

  • Evaluate customer RFQs BOMs and drawing packages to determine technical and manufacturing requirements.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) assessments during the quotation process.
  • Translate customer specifications into actionable inputs for internal stakeholders.
  • Identify potential material process or test challenges before submission to ensure compliance and feasibility.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Engineering to review documentation assess risks and establish technical assumptions.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Purchasing to confirm component availability and propose qualified alternates.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to verify adherence to ITAR DFARS and flow-down requirements.
  • Customer and Proposal Engagement

  • Participate in customer discussions to clarify technical requirements and constraints.
  • Provide technical recommendations and support negotiations in partnership with Sales and Program Management.
  • Develop and maintain technical content for RFIs RFP responses and proposal documentation.
  • Quote Enablement & Tool Utilization

  • Support BOM scrubbing AVL validation and alternate parts analysis using CalcuQuote or equivalent systems.
  • Recommend process assumptions tooling and test strategies to ensure accurate and competitive cost modeling.
  • Qualifications :

    Minimum 5 years of experience in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) preferably within Defense or Aerospace sectors.

    Deep understanding of PCBA manufacturing system integration and test methodologies.

    Familiarity with IPC standards DFARS / ITAR requirements and controlled documentation practices.

    Demonstrated experience preparing or supporting complex technical quotations or proposals.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using CalcuQuote Arena or similar quoting / PLM platforms.
  • Prior roles in customer engineering or technical pre-sales.
  • Working knowledge of MIL-SPECs QMLs and other controlled documentation systems.
  • Security Clearance (active or eligible) is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements :

    Ability to work at a computer or desk for extended periods.

    Must be able to communicate clearly in person virtually and by phone.

    Occasional movement within office or production areas as needed.

    Ability to lift or carry light materials (up to approximately 20 lbs).

    May require occasional travel to customer sites or company locations.
