Our five hospitals and eleven clinics provide excellence in our comprehensive services, medical advancement, and overall patient outcomes. Responsibilities
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary health team to promote the best educational / behavioral care.
- Attends and participates in weekly clinical rounds and relevant patient care conferences.
- Obtains information from the patient's school to aid in assessing their present level of academic / behavioral performance.
- Maintain communication with the patient's family regarding their academic progress.
- Documents patient's educational activities and progress in the electronic medical record.
- Adheres to the Utah Core Standards for the framework that is used to advance the educational growth and enrichment of the patients who are enrolled in University Academy.
- Advocates for the patient to receive academic supports by writing formal letters requesting IEP or 504 evaluation and provides appropriate recommended accommodations.
- Participates in IEP / 504 meetings, transition meetings, or provides psychoeducational training to school personnel regarding mental health diagnoses via video conferencing.
- When relevant, coordinates transition from the hospital back to the patient's boundary school; this may include assignment of grades and credit.
- Maintaining, updating, and continually developing and advancing the University Academy educational curriculum.
- Conduct academic assessments / testing when clinically appropriate.
- May issue academic transcripts.
- Participates in the ordering of educational supplies.
- In the absence of the Education Specialist Administrator, a Licensed Teacher may be asked to step in and help supervise / mentor any unlicensed staff.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.Strong executive functioning skills to balance the required duties of classroom instruction, case management, and advocacy.Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients, parents, clinicians, guidance counselors, and school administrators.Ability to work with children that have a wide range of academic, emotional, and behavioral needs.Demonstrates strong behavioral management techniques and skills in a classroom or group setting.Ability to differentiate and modify curriculum as needed to make school both interesting and meaningful for patients.Ability to interact with patients and parents in helping them understand the curriculum and the school expectations.Ability to communicate to parents how our academic services are delivered.Ability to coach parents regarding accessing academics support services for their child.Ability to effectively advocate for children with academic, emotional, and behavioral issues.Experience and competence with electronic communication tools such Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Electronic Medical Records systems, video conferencing technology and Microsoft Word.Qualifications
Qualifications
Required
1 year of teaching experience.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or Special Education.Licenses Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.Current Utah teaching certificate in elementary, secondary, or special education; or, actively participating in the district's Utah State Board of Education's re-certification process. The re-certification process is to be completed within the time frame allotted by the Utah State Board of Education.Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
