The Learning and Engagement (L&E) department at the Denver Art Museum builds art and creativity experiences together with communities, fostering well-being, belonging, and empathy for all and advancing next practices in the museum field. As part of the Lifelong Learning and Accessibility division within L&E, you will help execute a dynamic suite of public programs (reaching almost 5000 visitors annually across Denver Metro region) and implement accessibility initiatives that champion universal design and celebrate the role of creativity in healthy living for people of all ages and abilities.

Schedule : Full-time, Monday - Friday; may require occasional weekend and evening hours.

Starting Pay Range : $20.00 $25.00 / hour, based on experience.

A $0.50 / hour language differential is available for candidates who demonstrate Spanish language proficiency.

What You'll Do

As Coordinator of Lifelong Learning and Accessibility, your responsibilities will include :

Supporting the development and implementation of Art & Wellness programs and spaces that reach and are relevant to Denver metro communities, particularly to active older adults and visitors with disabilities. C urrent programs include Art and About, Art at Hand boxes, Art at Hand Community Connections, Sensory Garden.

  • Maintaining systems for communication, scheduling, and distributing resources across internal museum departments and external partners to execute high quality and impactful programs.
  • Executing evaluation studies of current and future programs to gather feedback from artists, visitors, and community. Help assess and refine programs based on learnings.

Supporting the development of accessibility programs, resources and accommodations for visitors with disabilities that remove barriers to accessing the DAM.

  • Create systems to support accessibility consultation during the development and installation of special exhibitions and public programs; help inform Museum-specific guidelines as necessary.
  • Execute the planning and development of deliverables connected to current and future grant-funded projects. Currently including the 2025-2028 Designing for Accessibility project.

  • Develop project timelines and schedules that align closely with the grant to ensure grant deliverables and deadlines are met. Schedule and lead planning meetings, create agendas, and follow-up on action items related to project planning.
  • Facilitate project-related communications within the core teams, the extended Learning and Engagement team, as well as key stakeholders from other departments (development), and outside consultants to ensure successful planning and delivery of the grant program and understanding of how these fit with institutional and departmental priorities.
  • Build systems for project documentation and maintain evaluation data.
  • Coordinate community and external partner meeting logistics and attend meetings as necessary (working occasional evenings and weekends may be necessary).
  • Inform and support program training with interns, volunteers and staff who help implement Art and Wellness programs.
  • Helping recruit and train interns, staff and volunteers who support Art & Wellness and Accessibility programs.
  • Maintaining consistent communication and training materials for volunteer groups supporting Lifelong Learning and Accessibility programs, including Sensory Garden Guides, Access Docents, Art at Hand Community Connections, and special events

  • Utilizing Volgistics and Talent Learning Management System (LMS) to coordinate communication, scheduling, and training resources for volunteers. Current volunteer groups : Art and About, Art at Hand Community Connections, Sensory Garden Guides, Untitled Artist Takeover.
  • Working with Denver Botanic Gardens staff and Teaching Specialist to develop and implement training programs for Sensory Garden and Art at Hand volunteers (reserve spaces, maintain training calendar, oversee communications with volunteers).
  • Maintaining exceptional program quality and effectiveness and fostering a culture of discovery, creativity, and personal connection to art and culture.
  • Supporting learning and engagement initiatives.

  • Promoting equity of opportunity with art & creative experiences by centering diverse and historically under-represented voices.
  • Contributing to reports for funders and stakeholders as needed.
  • Working collaboratively across the Learning and Engagement department to deliver superior visitor experiences.
  • Supporting on-going understanding of museum education and accessibility best practices among the broader Learning & Engagement staff.
  • Supporting interns when needed, including hiring, scheduling, and training.
  • Representing Lifelong Learning and Accessibility programs when needed.
  • Supporting museum-wide events (like Untitled, Free Days, community celebrations).
  • Supporting DAM's Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives through goal setting and applying a racial equity lens in daily work.
  • Qualifications

    What We're Looking For

    You might be a great fit if you have :

  • A degree (or relevant lived experience) in studio art, education, social work. Relevant professional experience can be substituted for educational requirements.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a cultural institution, non-profit, or educational setting.
  • American Sign Language competency is encouraged.
  • Established creative practice or teaching experience is encouraged.
  • Knowledge and / or experience with accessibility and universal design. Committed to fostering a welcoming, accessible and inclusive culture.
  • Key relationships with a diverse group of Colorado-based disability organizations, teaching artists, creative community or experience building and sustaining a network of partners and community organizations.
  • Effective communicator with colleagues and visitors. Experience working with people with disabilities and older adults.
  • The ability to work with a variety of people on simultaneous projects; able to recognize problems as they arise and to take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills with colleagues and visitors. Experience working with people with disabilities and older adults.
  • This role has some physical requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of working at a computer in an open office
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment
  • Some light lifting (less than 50 pounds)
  • Occasional local travel to meetings, events, etc.
  • Occasional evening and / or weekend work as required, with advanced notice
  • Frequent interaction and communication with visitors by email, phone, and in-person
  • This covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU
