Rocky Mountain Steel Mills is looking for a Junior Automation Engineer to join our Pueblo manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on, early-career role where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to support automation, electrical, and instrumentation systems in a highly automated steelmaking environment.
You’ll help troubleshoot issues, collect and analyze process data, and support improvements that make our production safer, more reliable, and more efficient.
What You’ll DoSupport automation and process control systems with a cross-functional team
Assist with root cause analysis, process mapping, and continuous improvement efforts
Work with process data acquisition systems, PLCs, and field devices
Troubleshoot PLC cabinets, electrical circuits, instrumentation, and basic networks
Review and make basic updates to Rockwell PLC programs (CompactLogix & ControlLogix)
Help document improvements to prevent repeat issues
Provide on-call support as needed
Degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics Engineering (or Journeyman equivalent)
0–2 years of experience in automation, instrumentation, or industrial manufacturing
Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (CompactLogix & ControlLogix)
Basic knowledge of instrumentation, VFDs (PowerFlex), and industrial Ethernet networks
Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings, and loop diagrams
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
