Security Guard
Help Using subordinate supervisors and work leaders, oversee and direct the work of the Branch.
Prepare work schedules to ensure essential coverage of guard posts, assuring continuity of operations of all shifts, instruct subordinate Lead guards.
Actively participates in the planning of work priorities and required minimal staffing requirements to meet security objectives.
Direct the protection of government property against hazards of damage, theft, trespassing, espionage, physical security, antiterrorism and crime prevention.
Inspect areas and equipment for serviceability and examine security functions / procedures for effectiveness and compliance.
Prepare and / or administer the budget for program areas; and, monitor expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applications will be accepted from non-preference eligibles; however, these applications will not be considered if preference eligible applicants are available. Note : An agency may fill a restricted position with a non-preference eligible by position change (promotion, demotion, or reassignment) from among current permanent Department of the Army employees.
Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes (1) experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization leading or supervising employees in the area of law enforcement or security; (2) enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement and / or security; and (3) coordinating developmental and / or training needs or programs for security / law enforcement employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
