Safety Coordinator

Position Summary

Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring workplace safety by developing policies, conducting training, and overseeing compliance with safety regulations.

Position Details

• Tours and inspects smaller, less-complex job sites to ensure compliance with company, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Cal-OSHA rules and regulations.
• Reports concerns to safety management. Ensures health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
• Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures. Provides recommendations for correcting non-compliance issues.
• Participate in off-hour or weekend high-risk activities as needed (e.g., crane operations).
• Work weekends and nights as assigned by the Safety Management Team.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Lead New Hire Safety Orientation
• Conduct live training for Competent Persons (Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Trenching, etc.
• Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA standards regarding excavations, confined spaces, fall protection, hazard communication, rigging operations, and the ability to conduct awareness level training for each discipline
• Work is performed mainly in field settings. Considerable indoor/outdoor work in hot, cold or rainy weather conditions is required to inspect various construction/commercial sites and facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate tools, instruments, and equipment.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. In addition, the employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must be able to carry/lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Ensures cited issues are corrected within designated timeframe.
• Maintains all site required documentation related to safety issues, including accident reports, inspection reports and training logs.
• Reviews daily job hazard logs and takes action as required.
• Provides emergency response to employees as needed. Documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries.
• Serves as mentor to less-experienced Safety employees.
• Assists with development of training materials and coordinates and facilitates employee training as necessary.
• Solid working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• Solid problem-solving skills
• Solid customer-service and organizational skills
• Solid computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet
• Solid knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures
• Exercises independent judgement and makes decisions as needed
• Consults with Safety Management Team on decisions that significantly impact the company•
• This role does not supervise or direct other workflow of others
• May mentor less-experienced safety roles

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline preferred
• Certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred
• OSHA 30hr
• OSHA 510, CHST or STSC or ASP certifications preferred

Pay: Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For (Colorado/New York City/California/Washington/Maryland) this ranges from $70,000.00-85,000.00 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
