Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a Shipping / Receiving Operator to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia. The available shift hours are mid-day shift, M-F 11am-7pm. New Hire Starting Rate : $19.70 p / hr.; After 6 months : $21.89 p / hr. This position will receive an hourly "shift premium" of $1.00 p / hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary : The Shipping / Receiving Operator will coordinate activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment weekly. They will establish and coordinate departmental activities to meet objectives to coincide with plant goals.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities :

• Ensures inventory accuracy for raw materials under position's control.
• Understands shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, miscellaneous shippers and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
• Requires knowledge of domestic and international shipping and use of online shipping methods.
• Ensures compliance with all DOT regulations.
• Correctly classify and label hazardous material shipments
• Ensures compliance with all import and export government rules and regulations. Submit export paperwork to freight forwarders.
• Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.
• Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states. Schedules customer funded trucks. Schedules expedited shipments as required.
• Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.
• Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
• Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
• Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas
• Maintains inventory of all shipping supplies, including boxes, packing material, tape labels and any special supplies
• Develops and recommends annual budget requirements for the Warehouse and Receiving Department. Anticipate and request funding for future personnel requirements. Anticipate and request funding for future material handling equipment.
• Establishes project plans and coordinates activities for continuous improvement initiatives.
