About the Role : Job Description
The Dental Assistant is responsible for effectively and efficiently assisting the dentist(s) in providing quality dental care to patients. This role supports both clinical and administrative functions to ensure smooth daily operations and excellent patient experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include welcoming and preparing patients, assisting the dentist using four-handed dentistry, performing lab tasks, and providing oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions. The Dental Assistant also sets up and sterilizes instruments, maintains clean and stocked operatories, schedules appointments, and assists with patient records and payment procedures.
Skills and Knowledge
Bilingual Spanish is preferred, along with strong customer service, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills to support patient comfort and understanding. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, able to follow written and verbal instructions, work in a fast-paced environment, and use basic computer systems and dental management software.
Qualifications
Previous dental assisting experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must meet state requirements for Dental Assistants, including required certifications such as BLS, CPR, and radiography, as well as any continuing education or licensure standards.
Work Conditions and Schedule
The Dental Assistant works under the supervision of dentists, the Lead Dental Assistant, and the Office Manager in a clean, well-lit clinical environment. Evening or weekend hours may be required depending on the practice location, and all safety protocols—including x-ray safety—must be followed.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while assisting chairside during procedures. The Dental Assistant must also be able to bend, climb stairs, lift supplies, and assist with stocking and inventory duties.
