ELEVATOR MECHANIC

Elevator Mechanic

Under supervision, candidates will inspect, maintain, adjust, and repair passenger and freight elevator systems; maintain adequate elevator service to developments; provide safe elevator service to NYCHA residents. Duties shall include but not be limited to the following :

• Lubricate and clean all components of hydraulic and electric elevator systems.
• Make adjustments as required to contactors and controllers in the electrical and hydraulic elements of elevator systems.
• Inspect and check doors, cable rails, bumpers, safeties, overloads, relays, sheaves, and governors to assure continued safe operations.
• Re-rope and re-wire elevator systems as required.
• Check out troubles in all types of elevator and escalator systems.
• Perform necessary adjustments and / or repairs to all elevator mechanical and electrical components and their control systems.
• Inspect, maintain, adjust, and repair escalators, platform lifts, conveyors, and dumbwaiters.
• Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

Note : Eligible candidates may be required to pass a practical exam evaluating their ability to perform typical Elevator Mechanic tasks (i.e. trouble shooting, wiring door operators, print reading, etc.)

NOTE : IF THIS APPOINTMENT IS MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS PURSUANT TO 65 OF THE NYS CIVIL SERVICE LAW, NO TENURE OR PERMANENCE ACCRUES TO AN INCUMBENT IN THIS POSITION BY VIRTUE OF SUCH APPOINTMENT.

License Requirements : At the time of appointment, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
