Job Description
Performs complex informatics services within a clinical laboratory environment. Ensures that information systems, instrument interfaces and data sharing solutions meet the business needs of the Public Health Laboratory, statewide public health programs and the agency.
Consults with laboratory staff and vendor technical support to ensure that systems are installed and functioning as designed and troubleshoots issues as they are identified. Interfaces with the appropriate source to ensure that software data tables and user information is current and appropriate.
Responsible for supporting current Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications through upgrades and enhancements, development, implementation, testing and validation.
Facilitates communication with laboratory leadership and staff to provide access and training, and to ensure performance verification of LIMS Systems.
Supplies information in support of customized user interfaces, workflows and electronic transaction configurations and works with vendors to create forms and reports as needed.
Interfaces with assigned Office of Technology Services staff to ensure access to resources needed internally and externally to ensure communication paths are established as needed.
Managing, monitoring and expanding the laboratory’s use of electronic test ordering and resulting via intermediary platforms and HL7 messaging.
Provides data analytics (queries and reports in the LIMS) for operational metrics and public health statistics for trending.
Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions to the laboratory supervisor.
Maintains compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and ensures the retention and protection of laboratory data at all times.
Develops and maintains LIMS policies and procedures.
Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum 4 years professional experience with laboratory operational workflows, protocols, compliance requirements, system integrations, software information systems, instrument interfaces, and data sharing solutions.
Minimum 1 year professional experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, effective organizational and time management skills.
Great attention to detail and follow up.
Ability to manage projects, assignments, and competing priorities.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.
DESIRED:
Advanced degree.
Minimum 5 years professional experience with laboratory operational workflows, protocols, compliance requirements, system integrations, software information systems, instrument interfaces, and data sharing solutions.
Minimum 1 year professional experience in implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory information systems.
Minimum 1 year professional experience working with electronic data sharing solutions such as HL7 and web based electronic ordering and reporting systems.
Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
