Job Summary:
The
Network Observability Engineer supports the planning, implementation, and maintenance of
proactive monitoring and management tools that ensure the stability and performance of enterprise network infrastructure. This role collaborates closely with Technology Services and Network Infrastructure teams to design and manage
data, voice, and video monitoring systems, leveraging automation and development skills to expand visibility into the network’s operational health. The engineer will manage off-the-shelf and custom-built tools that provide
real-time and historical insights into network faults, configurations, and performance metrics. This includes configuring systems, maintaining version control, resolving vendor software issues, and developing scripts or APIs to automate monitoring processes.
Key Responsibilities: - Evaluate, recommend, and deploy network management tools to support infrastructure stability and performance.
- Configure and maintain SNMP-based monitoring systems, Syslog, and NetFlow integrations.
- Maintain and update management tool versions following strict change control procedures.
- Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve management tool software deficiencies.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation programs to enhance productivity and network visibility.
- Perform root cause analysis on network observability issues, implementing proactive solutions.
- Manage integrations with ServiceNow, xMatters, and other alerting tools.
- Provide consistent visibility and reporting on network health to support operational excellence.
Required Experience and Skills: - Proficiency with UNIX/RedHat Linux, including systems administration experience.
- Strong understanding of SNMP MIBs, Syslog, NetFlow, TACACS, SNMP Traps, and alerting tools.
- Familiarity with databases such as MySQL, Postgres, and Vertica.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently after onboarding.
Preferred Skills: - + years of experience managing or developing network management tools and scripts.
- Integration experience with ServiceNow and xMatters alerting.
- Automation tools such as Ansible and GitLab.
- Scripting proficiency in Perl, Python, or JSON.
- Familiarity with ThousandEyes, ScienceLogic, SolarWinds, and Infoblox IPAM (NIOS, DDI, DNS, DHCP).
- Knowledge of API/REST integrations, SSL, and certificate management.
- Experience with Broadcom/CA DX NetOps suite, including Spectrum, Performance Center, and Vertica repositories.
- Understanding of VMware NSX, AWS Route, and Azure Cloud network monitoring tools.

- Effective communicator able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple systems simultaneously.
